2019 Countryside Challenge Entries
Check List for Entrants and Groups
The Dressage and Countryside Challenge Qualifiers will be held at Pen Y Coed Riding Stables on May 16th 2019.
The forms and info will be resent to groups about a month before closing date to remind everyone and to confirm the new dressage tests sent by National RDA.
Please note this year we are expecting larger numbers of entries so there will be a maximum of 12 entries per group allowed for the Countryside Challenge competition, in order to allow us to hold both qualifiers in the same day.
Contact details are below and a checklist aimed to help you is provided so please read through the rules and information now so that you have plenty of time to prepare before entries close.
If you would like to help as a steward on the day and haven’t done so before then please get in touch with Alys and we’d be very grateful to have your help.

RDA CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION 2019
It’s back!
We’re delighted to announce that the ever-popular RDA Creative Writing Competition is back for 2019!
As in previous years, we will still be offering classes for poetry, short stories and letter-writing, but as 2019 marks RDA’s 50th Anniversary, we thought we’d add the theme of celebration to each of the classes.
I’ve attached an entry form to this email, which has full details of how to enter, closing dates and the types of entries that can be submitted. I’ve also attached an optional A4 poster for groups to display.
The competition is open to RDA participants only (although volunteers can enter if they are also an active RDA rider, carriage driver or vaulter) and as in previous years it will be completelyFREE to enter. There are generous prizes on offer for the overall winners of each class – and ALL entrants will receive a smart, specially-designed rosette and letter of congratulations.
I’d be really grateful if you could distribute the entry form and the small poster as far as you are able within your RDA networks, including client schools etc. (and promotion on group and regional social media would be fantastic, please, as I’ll be promoting this as far and as wide as I can myself, too). The closing date for entries won’t be until 29th March 2019, so participants have plenty of time to plan and write their entries.
As always, if you have any queries at all, please just ask.
Huge thanks in advance for your help in promoting this exciting, rewarding and inclusive extra activity for RDA participants. Let’s make the 2019 competition the best ever!

Dressage News
There are some exciting new Dressage opportunities for RDA riders in 2019. We welcome Sara Jones Williams who is going to share the role of Dressage Rep for N Wales Region, who comes from Anglesey RDA. Sara will be your contact for the competitions over in North West Wales and Linda Webster your contact for North East Wales competitions.
PLEASE VISIT THE NORTH WALES RDA FACEBOOK PAGE FOR MORE INFO!
We’d like to say a big thank you to Sara and Linda, as well as Claire Howe and Kirstie Harper, for making these events possible for our riders- here is some introductory information from Sara:
For your 2019 calendars, there will be dressage competitions at Presaddfed (Anglesey) Penrhyd (Conwy) and Northop (Flintshire) open to RDA riders to compete in unaffiliated and BD affiliated Dressage events. Riders may attend any of these events regardless of where their home group is.
It is hoped that results from these competitions will result in a Spring and Autumn League, i.e. riders will submit their scores from any of the events, plus National RDA Championships and Solihull Para Championships to Regional Dressage Representatives.
To attend the events you will need to be accompanied by a Green Coach (if your coach is not able to attend then Region may be able to supply a “Stand in” Green Coach for you) and your horse/pony will need to be provided by your Group or by yourself.
We have a limited number of “Dressage pool horses/ponies” in the Region which may be hired by RDA riders for competitions (after a suitable trial ride organised with the horse’s coach/owner and the rider.) Please contact Sara Jones Williams or Linda Webster for more information on using the “N Wales Pool ponies”- this must be organised well before the event.
There are no horses/ponies available to hire at the event venues themselves.
All horses/ponies used must have been assessed as RDA ponies by their RDA Group or Regional Coach, Anne Furey, before the events start and covered by insurance.
Please pass this information on to your coaches, volunteers and riders, I will shortly email with a table of events for everyone.

Montgomery RDA annual fund-raising in local town hall
Montgomery Area RDA Group donation from Invertek Drives.
Montgomery Area RDA Group has received a welcome boost to its finances in the form of a donation from a local technology company, Invertek Drives. The group, which is responsible for raising all the money required to hire ponies for its riders, meets each Tuesday in term-time at Penycoed Stables, Pant, near Oswestry in Shropshire. The stables recently opened an indoor school, enabling riding to take place in all weathers. Riders come from Brynllywarch Hall School, near Kerry in Montgomeryshire. This year two of them took part in the Countryside Challenge, and one came second and thus qualified to take part in the finals at Hartpury in July.
The picture shows the group’s chairman, June Little, and vice-chairman and treasurer, Penny Harris, holding the cheque, surrounded by the volunteers, two of our riders and ponies, with their instructor at the back.
